FUSION X: Creative Rebellion April 19th, 2009 On Sunday, April 19th, 2009, UC San Diego's Multi-Asian Student Association (MASA) and 220 Second to None dance team, will once again join forces to host FUSION, the largest hip hop dance competition in the West Coast. With this being our 10th year anniversary, FUSION will unite highly talented dancers of all ages and ethnicities from across the country to celebrate music through various dance styles and cultural exhibitions. This year's theme, "Creative Rebellion," will showcase the very essence of how hip hop music was brought to the forefront. It has grown to be an international phenomenon, and the mission of FUSION is to enlighten everyone of its impact outside the borders of the United States. In addition, young Asian-Americans are becoming increasingly prominent in their own Creative Rebellion, as more and more are being recognized in dance, music, and film. With these in mind, MASA and 220 strive to promote cultural awareness in the hip hop community. Since its inception in 1999, attendance to this event has increased about 400% as FUSION is now the largest student-run and Asian-directed event at UCSD. FUSION has long been an avenue for many of today's most popular crews, including Kaba Modern & Team Millennia. Last year, with the culture's ever-growing popularity, FUSION hit a record-breaking audience of over 3,000 attendees, and sold out the tickets days before the show date. With the first ever "Event Of The Year" from the Annual V-ENT Dance Awards under its belt, and a current nomination for the second year in a row, FUSION is forecasting to grow even larger. The event showcases performers from all over the nation and has viewers across the globe. Arranged by the efforts solely of college students, the success of FUSION rests on the diligence and determination of MASA and 220.
