~ LYRICS ~
Listen To The Music
Tom Johnston
Don't you feel it growin',
Day by day
People
Gettin' ready for the news
Some are happy,
Some are sad
Wo, we got to let the music play
Wo, oh yeah
What the people need
Is a way to make 'em smile
It ain't so hard to do if you know how
Gotta get a message
Get it on through
Oh now mama's goin' to after awhile
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
All the time
Well I know,
You know better
Everything I say
Meet me in the country for a day
We'll be happy
And we'll dance
Wo, we're gonna dance the blues away
Wo, oh yeah
And if I'm feelin' good to you
And you're feelin' good to me
There ain't nothin' we can't do or say
Feelin' good,
Feeling fine
Wo, baby, let the music play
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
All the time
Like a lazy flowing river
Surrounding castles in the sky
And the crowd is growing bigger
List'nin' for the happy sounds
And I got to let em fly
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
All the time
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
Wo, oh, oh, listen to the music
All the time
God, we gotta let the music play!

- listen you stupid unwise jerks
- Sure, I suppose that's a somewhat fair response. But regardless, change is good and you have to embrace it. My comment might have been a little too harsh, considering I might have shared the same views had I grown up in the 60's to 70's myself. But if we were still stuck in those days, there would be no Opeth, Between the Buried and Me, RHCP, Macklemore, etc. That's why we have to embrace change. Change brings new ideas, and new perspectives. Cheers man! Long live the Doobie Bros! :P
- Even if good music is around these days, it's certainly not "in the air." The stuff in the air is teen-pop and nu-country. There hasn't been decent music in the mainstream, where you can hear it on top 40 radio or in restaurants or the mall, since the mid-90s at least.
- Thank you, kind Sir. I shall. Also, thank you for your civil response. Civility is a rare commodity on the internet. I would say that calling dude a dumbfuck lacked civility but I was just stating the truth. You mentioning RUSH and Boston made me whip out some of old vinyl, spark up a fatty and do some much needed chilling. That it took the voters as long as they did to put RUSH in the hall of fame is a joke. In the words of Eddie Trunk, they need to go fuck themselves.
- Ahh, there is NOTHING like listening to this on a cool, Friday night, while sitting and chilling with your dad. I fucking love you, Doobie Brothers. This song brings back SO many memories. <3
- I have always loved this song!
- I agree. There was great music then, as there is good stuff out there today. One has to appreciate the past, enjoy the present, and be open to the future, otherwise they're closing the door on great things that are happening and to come.
- Why are old geezers always sooo ignorant in regards to modern music? It's really frustrating. Music evolves, just like every other facet in life! Deal with it! I honestly think The Beatles are the best band of all-time, but it doesn't mean I have to complain, over and over, about the Beatles not existing anymore.
- ONE OF MY VERY FAVS OF THE DOOBS
- John 3:16 , John 17:12 ...
- WHY are they not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...no excuses, then no body should be there...with this kind of talent, vocals and instrumental it's a No Brainer!!!
- Ahh...the memories this song brings back.
- I really like Matchbox 20. I think they are an "older" band in today's terms, since everything today has to be instant/digital.
HOWEVER, you are talking apples and oranges. I hate it when people try to compare today's bands with RUSH, Boston, Journey, Led Zepplin, The Stones, et al. It's worse than saying your Checker's burger is just as good as my prime rib at the Ritz-Carlton...
Oh, and Mr. White: You are a GOD of expression, PLEASE keep posting!! :)
- You sir are a moron, take your matchbox 20 and justin bieber dance remixes elsewhere.
- Every year at some point I listen to this song& it never gets old, I cant say the same for today's crap that's how you decipher real music 40yrs later still jamming to this (though I'm a 90s kid lol)
- 31 years ago my man
- ahhh man the Doobie Brothers broke up. When did that happen.
- I see YouTube have removed dislikes from Vevo's music videos, but not this one.... FUCK YOU YOUTUBE.
- Haha. That he is. That he is.
- Address him by his proper title... His royal assness
- Great soundtrack used in the film Bottle-shock
- If only I could press "Like" more than once.
- Early: Rusty, how do you feel about white people?
Rusty: I don't know... I like them Doobie Brothers.
